Labuschagne Dropped from Australian One-Day International Squad Against Team India

Marnus Labuschagne has been dropped from Australia's three-game ODI series facing India, with in-form Queensland teammate Matt Renshaw receiving a shock inclusion.

Recent Form Lead to Exclusion

Selectors dropped Labuschagne from the one-day international side following managing only a single run in each of his two innings during the top-end series against South Africa in August. Labuschagne has a highest score of 47 in his last 10 ODI innings.

Labuschagne has featured in 68 ODIs and accumulated 1,871 ODI runs at an average of 34.64, but will now continue to press his claims a Test team comeback in time for the Ashes beginning in Perth on November 21.

Renshaw's Return and Other Squad Updates

Labuschagne has shown signs of a improvement in form with 160 for Queensland in the domestic first-class competition this week, while Renshaw also hit a century for the Bulls in the identical match against Tasmania.

Renshaw could to make his first white-ball appearance in the forthcoming series against India after his last inclusion in an ODI squad in 2022.

The left-hander has played 14 Test matches with the most recent appearance in India in 2023 but is also hoping for a Test return as Australia search for a answer to their batting top-order problems.

Pace Additions and Fitness Updates

Left-arm quick Mitchell Starc makes a comeback for the ODI series against India after being rested since excelling for Australia in the whitewash of West Indies in July.

BBL performer Mitch Owen might get his ODI debut after suffering a concussion in the build-up to Australia’s most recent 50-over series against South Africa.

Skipper Pat Cummins is still unavailable as he aims to recover from a back injury by the time to lead Australia in the first Ashes Test in November.

Team Announcement Strategy and Fixtures

Australia have announced a squad for only the first two T20s against India with the Ashes approaching, although Glenn Maxwell will miss all of the five-match series due to a wrist problem sustained in New Zealand.

Mitch Marsh will lead both the ODI and T20 sides after scoring a hundred in the last match against New Zealand to seal a two-nil victory last week.

“Selectors have announced a squad for the ODI series and first two games of the T20 series as there will be some management through the later stages of the series as individuals prepare for the summer through domestic first-class matches,” selection chief George Bailey said.
“The majority of the T20 squad will remain together as it’s an important period in the build towards the T20 World Cup next year, however we are trying to strike a balance to ensure we simultaneously prepare certain individuals for the Test series ahead.”

Australia’s three-match ODI series against India begins on October 19 in Perth, before the rivals play five T20 internationals from 29 October.
